16 Naxals killed in police encounter in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli, search operation still on
The Maoists in Maharashtra have suffered a stiff resistance. At least 16 Maoists died on Sunday in the police encounter in Gadchiroli district. Maharashtra IG Sarad Shelar said that the 60-member commandos of Gadchiroli had participated in the encounter. “C-60 commandos led by Gadchiroli SP Abhinav Deshmukh started coup on Saturday in the Tadgaon forests in Bhamragad. The police saw the Maoists on Sunday morning 10 o’clock and firing started on both sides. The firing is continued for 2 hours and 16 Maoists have died in this firing.

The died people in the Gadchiroli encounter were identified as Perumalai commander Sainath alias Domesh Atharam (34) and Rautu Vijender alias Srinu alias Srikanth (41) from Chilligarige village in Chityal Mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. Srikanth is the son of three sons of Rautu Ahalya and Narsimhaaram. Srikanth, who studied up to Class 10th in a local school, joined the children’s association of Peoples’ Supervisor, led by Shekhar Rajapapayya, In 1996 he worked at the Radical Youth Union Area Committee. With the collaboration of Maoists top leader Sakamuri Apparao, who met in jail, Srikanth went to underground. Srikanth, who joined People’s Wing in 2000, is currently working in Gadchiroli District Divisional Committee. There were 82 criminal cases against Srikanth, and 72 cases on Sainath, police said.
