2-Day Bank Strike From Today, ATM Services May Get Hit
State Bank of India, Public Sector and some private banks will shut down on wednesday and Thursday in Telugu States as part of a strike by bank employees across the country for wage revision demand. Bank Strike
Most of the banks, including State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Bank of Baroda (BoB), have already informed their customers that functioning of branches and offices will be affected in the wake of the strike.
Except online transactions no services will be available. Nearly 80,000 officials and employees will participate in the strike in Telugu States, the bank officials said.
The ATM services will also be stopped along with banks. ATM security guards are also likely to participate in the bank strike.
As there is no progress in discussions with Chief Labour Commissioner, Bankers union took decision on monday for strike. The United Forum of Banking Unions has demanded early wage review settlement, sufficient increase in salary, improvement in other service conditions and wage revision settlement for all officers up to scale VII.
With this From Wednesday 6 am to Friday 6 am, the strike will continue for 48 hours. However, the functioning of private banks like ICICI, HDFC, Axis and Kotak Mahindra is expected to be normal except for delays in cheque clearance.
According to National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) vice president Ashwini Rana, 10 lakh bank employees and officers of the 21 public sector banks, old generation private banks and foreign banks will join the two-day protest.
People’s cash troubles will continue again with the bank employees strike. ATMs are empty in bank holiday days. People are concerned about two-day strike. Since the bank protest dates coincides with the month end, salary withdrawals are likely to get affected. Bankers have stated that banks operations will resume from June 1.
