French Open 2018: Fourth seed Elina Svitolina knocked out in third round
Another sensation in French open women’s singles has been recorded. Fourth seeded Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) dropped out of the tournament after losing the match with Bucharest (Romania) the world number 33 who had never won a Grand Slam match before this week. In the third round, Svitolina lost to Bucharest (Romania) with 3-6, 5-7.
In the match, Svitolina scored 11 winners and Bucharest scored 31 winners. Svitolina made 29 unnecessary errors. She lost her rhythm in first set itself. On the other hand, Bucharest took the advantage and turned the opportunity to succeed.
The second seed Wozniak continuing her success. In the third round Wozniak (Denmark) won over France player by 6-0, 6-3, . Madison Keys (USA) won over Naomi Osaka (Japan) with 6-1, 7-6 (9-7). Kazan also reached the fourth round.
“Today, really, I was off and couldn’t find my rhythm, my game. I was really struggling,” said Svitolina.
“On the other hand, she was playing great tennis. She was really, really on the ball.”
Play was later cancelled for the day following a heavy spell of rain with eighth seed Petra Kvitova and 10th seed Sloane Stephens yet to start their matches.
