Amazon boss Jeff Bezos is again richest man in the world
Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world. The Forbes billionaire list was released yesterday. With a wealth of 141.9 billion dollars, Bezos stood top in the list which is nearly $40 billion more than he was last year. From June 1, Bezos wealth has risen to nearly $ 5 billion. Last year also he was in first place in the billionaire list. Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates, with a wealth of 92.9 billion dollars, has been ranked second and Warren Buffet worth $ 92.2 billion stood in the third place.
Bezos’ story began at the age of 30 when he discovered that the Internet usage was growing at the rate of 2,300 per cent per year. It was while serving as a vice president at the hedge fund D. E. Shaw in the 1990s that Bezos came up with the idea to sell books over the Internet. Amazon received a phenomenal response on the Internet as the fledgeling company sold books across 45 countries including the United States within 30 days of its launch.
Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post newspaper, is the first person to cross the $100 billion mark in assets, Forbes said.
In the Fortune’s last list release world’s most valuable companies, Amazon is next to Apple. Amazon is ranked eighth in the US with 177.87 billion dollars. According to Forbes, Four Indians among the top 100 in the list of billionaires. Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani, Mukesh Ambani, the energy and petrochemicals magnate, who keeps his standing as the richest Indian is at the 19th place with a wealth of 40.1 billion dollars. Lakshmi Mittal is ranked 62nd with a wealth of 18.5 billion dollars and Shiv Nadar’s stood in 98th position with a wealth of 14.6 billion dollars, while Azim Premji is ranked 58th with 18.8 billion dollars. The US has 585 billionaires and China 373 this year on the Forbes tally.
