Former Telecom Minister A Raja, Kanimozhi, 15 Others Acquitted in 2G Case
Former Telecom Minister A Rajagopal on the 2G spectrum allocation scam case. Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi were acquitted. Patiala CBI Special court on Thursday given its verdict over the case. Along with these members, all the accused mentioned in the case were acquitted. The court stated that they were acquitted in the absence of proper evidence. However, the CBI sources said it will appeal to the high court challenging the verdict.
This scandal took place during the UPA government. At that time, D.K. Raja served as the Telecom Minister. However, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has accused D.K. Raja for a large scale of corruption in his 2G spectrum allocation. The corruption has caused a loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the government.
In 2010, when the CAG accused D.K. Raja in the case, then UPA government has suspended D.K.Raja from the government. CBI and ED has investigated the case. Charge sheet where filed against D.K. Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi and 17 other leaders and corporate executives. D.K. Raja was arrested in 2011. After a year in jail, D.K Raja was released on bail.
After the CBI courts verdict DMK leaders started celebrating. Justice won in ruling, which is a happy news for all Tamil Nadu people, says DMK leaders.
