Jeff Bezos the Richest Man in Modern History, Topping $150 Billion
The prominent e-commerce firm Amazon’s head, Jeff Bezos, became the richest man in Modern History his wealth, crossed over $ 150 billion. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, The Amazon.com Inc. founder’s net worth cracked $150 billion in New York on Monday. The report stated Bezos’ net worth is $55 billion more than that of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.
Jeff Bezos was the only richest person in the modern world. Bezos is the only person who has such wealth since the starting of the Forbes wealth list in 1982.
Amazon has started 36 hours prime day sales since today. With this Bezos, income has grown tremendously. On Monday morning, Amazon’s shares climbed to $ 1,841.95. At the end of the trading session, it rose by 0.5 per cent to $ 1,822.49.
Jeff Bezos wealth surged to $ 150 billion. Within one year, Bezos wealth grew by $ 52 billion. The stock slipped below $1,800 in extended trading after Netflix Inc. posted disappointing results, rattling tech investors. After Bezos, Microsoft founder Bill Gates is in second place with $ 95.3 billion.
Before Bezos, Bill Gates was the richest man in the world. In 1999, his wealth hit $ 100 billion. However, Bill Gates donated most of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. So he went to second place. Analysts say that his fortune is still worth more than $ 150 billion today. Bill Gates donated almost 700 million Microsoft shares and $2.9 billion of cash and other assets since 1996, according to an analysis of his publicly disclosed giving.
The report also cites the Bloomberg index, which pegs Gates at $95.5 billion, followed by Warren Buffett at $83 billion.
In comparison, Bezos is in the same league as the world’s richest dynasty the Walton family, whose wealth stands at $151.5 billion.
A Federal Reserve report stated that America’s top 1 per cent controlled 38.6 per cent of wealth in the country in 2016, as opposed to the 22.8 per cent held by the bottom 90 per cent.
