Supreme Court orders live telecast of Karnataka floor test, KG Bopaiah will be the pro tem speaker
The high voltage debate continues in Karnataka elections. Governor Vajubhai Vala appointed K.G Bopaiah as Protem Speaker for conducting floor test to prove the strength of Yeddyurappa, who sworn as Karnataka CM on May 17. However, the Congress-JDS alliance went to the Supreme Court opposing this appointment. The three-judge bench took up the investigation today. Congress-JDS petitions have been dismissed made it clear that Boppiah should continue as Pro tem Speaker.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal on behalf of Congress-JDS has heard his arguments. “Appointment of Bopaiah as Protem Speaker is contrary to traditions. We should be elected the assembly speakers depending on their experience and by considering the most elected times, said advocate Kapil Sibal. But Governor appointed Bopaiah. We have no objection to the swearing the Legislative Assembly but we are against the decision of the trust vote, “Sibal said.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal asked the court not to give permission to K.G Bopaiah as pro tem. But the Supreme Court has disagreed with his argument. Later bench asked the law how they took this decision to appointed K.G Bopaiah. “We have made an inquiry into Yeddyurappa’s swearing-in midnight. But now you want to interfere in the Pro tem Speaker. But how can we appoint a Pro tem Speaker? There is no rule in the constitution to consult the Governor. To election, the senior members as the Pro tem Speaker is a tradition. But it is not legitimate. Furthermore, there are times when non-senior members are elected as the Protem Speaker. If you ask too much, send the notices to the Speaker. We will postpone the trust vote, “the bench said.
After the arguments, the court dismissed the petition. KG Bopaiah said that Pro tem will continue to be the speaker and will be strengthened at 4 pm. However, this belief test should be broadcast live.
